2025 Holiday Hero: Scott Donovan

Today, we’re highlighting our 3rd and last Holiday Hero for 2025, Scott Donovan. Some of you may know him as a DJ for Eagle Radio and for his community involvement in the Great Bend area.

Scott was nominated by Leonard Kaiser and this is what Leonard had to say:

"He gives of his time and talents to a fault.  He was a DJ for Eagle Radio for many years and has shared his voice for every charity auction in the Barton County area.  He is or has been on almost every board in this area as well, whether governmental or civic.  Scott is such a caring individual. So many organizations would not be where and what they are without him. He was "Citizen of the Year" in Great Bend a few years back. Some organizations he helps are CASA, Sunflower Diversified Services, Camp Hope for Kids with Cancer, Kans for Kids, Knights of Columbus, KIOGA, Kids Ag Day, etc."

Scott chose to donate his $500 to the Prince of Peace Parish ACTS group in Great Bend. We asked him why he chose this organization and below is his response:

“ACTS stands for Adoration, Community, Theology and Service, four things that I believe in and work towards in my life on this Earth. The ACTS Retreats first started in 1987 in San Antonio, Texas. Catholic Churches hold ACTS retreats for both men and women across the country and the Prince of Peace Parish here in Great Bend hold one each year. This was my first year taking part in this 3-day event held here at the Dominican Sisters Convent in Great Bend.

Scott DonovanIt was a great opportunity to gather with Christian men from across the area. We shared stories, we learned and worshiped together, and shared the blessings God has provided for us all. I believe that a strong faith just adds so much to your life and the communities where we all live and thrive. The ACTS Retreat has happened in Great Bend since 2017, except for 2020 because of COVID. Our church and the previous attendees do a great job of promoting and carrying on this tradition.

The good thing about an ACTS Retreat is that anyone is invited to take part. Even if you are not Catholic. Scholarships are available for those who can't afford the full retreat tuition. And with the $500 Holiday Hero donation to this organization, we will be able to help other men grow their faith and provide service to their community.”

We applaud Scott for his dedication to his community and for sharing his story with us. People like Scott and our other two Holiday Heroes, Bev and Jose, are great examples of what makes our communities and this state so great!
