Nex-Tech Wireless Partners with Intrado to Offer Text to 9-1-1

Hays, Kan., June 2013 — Nex-Tech Wireless recently selected Intrado to provide three digit, 9-1-1 text messaging capability with Intrado TXT29-1-1®. TXT29-1-1 is a valuable public safety service allowing all subscribers on Nex-Tech Wireless’ network to have access to lifesaving public safety services. In an increasingly mobile world, texting is a widely used form of communication. While a voice call is the preferred method of making an emergency call, the ability to send a text-to-9-1-1 can be an essential lifeline in situations where a voice call cannot be made safely. Text to 9-1-1 is also a critical form of communication for the over 38 million deaf and hard of hearing citizens in the United States.

“As a wireless provider, we have the opportunity to give our customers a convenient means of communicating. With TXT29-1-1, we are able to expand upon our offerings and allow customers the ability to receive assistance based solely on sending a text message,” stated Jeff Kisner, Director of Network Operations for Nex-Tech Wireless.  “Because trends indicate more people are texting instead of talking on their phones, it makes sense to add this capability. We are pleased to partner with Intrado to bring this vital solution to our customers. We look forward to local emergency response centers upgrading their equipment to make this complete.”

“We applaud Nex-Tech Wireless and its commitment to advancements in 9-1-1 technology and enhancing the safety of its citizens.” said John Kearney, Vice President and General Manager, Intrado.  “The capability to text-to-9-1-1 is essential to the safety of the general public and we are excited to see communities throughout the country adopting and deploying this lifesaving technology.”
