National Preparedness Month

Now is the time to prepare your family and community for emergencies. September is National Preparedness Month. Are you financially prepared for a disaster? Do you have an emergency plan? Do your children know what to do in the event of an emergency? Do you have an emergency kit? Now is the perfect time to plan and prepare all of these things!

To - do list for National Preparedness Month:

1. Check insurance coverage and snap photos of all important documents and personal belongings. We recommend storing these photos both on your phone and in a cloud service like iCloud or Google Photos

2. Make an emergency plan today! Be sure to include your kids in emergency planning. Share emergency contacts, practice fire drills and practice evacuating in the car with your family and animals. Download a group texting app like groupme so your entire circle of family and friends can keep in touch before, during and after an emergency.

3. Download the FEMA app which provides alerts for up to 5 locations, plus disaster resources and safety tips.

4. Sit down as a family and build an emergency kit. Things such as bottled water, non-perishable food items, candles, matches, flashlights, blankets and a portable battery for electronics should all be included.
