National Telephone Day With Shawn

By Shawn at Hays Retail

I have been with Nex-Tech Wireless since 2008 so I have seen phone technology change quite a bit in that time. When I first started, we had several basic phones like the Moto Razr, Moto Rocker, LG Script and even the Palm Treo! My favorite phone to sell was the Moto Razor, back then we had to manually program the devices.  Some other notable phones from the time were the Blackberry Pearl and Blackberry Curve. We also had several Nokia’s and a handful of HTC devices like the HTC Hero, Desire, and Wildfire. However, one of the biggest memories I have are when we first launched the iPhone on the NTW network! I was here for the iPhone 4 and 4s launch and it was Awesome!! We had a line of people that extended out of the store as people rushed to get their iPhone. Now, were on the iPhone 15 and we know that the iPhone 16 will be here before we know it!

That just shows how we have come a long way with technology.  From slide out keyboards on the LG Script to touch screen messaging on our new iPhones and Androids. The Palm Treo was a popular phone for our business clients back in the day as it had a calendar and was one of the best phones back then for organizing your information for business.  We had a machine we would have to use to transfer information from phone to phone via infrared. Now, most of that happens via the cloud or seamlessly transfers from phone to phone via Bluetooth or by USB-C cable connection.

Our cameras today on the iPhone 15 series and Samsung Galaxy S24 series are absolutely amazing!! Just for reference, the Moto Razr boasted a simple 1.3-megapixel camera. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max “pro camera system” has, according to Apple’s website:

48MP Main: 24 mm, ƒ/1.78 aperture, secondgeneration sensorshift optical image stabilization, 100% Focus Pixels, support for superhighresolution photos (24MP and 48MP)

12MP Ultra Wide: 13 mm, ƒ/2.2 aperture and 120° field of view, 100% Focus Pixels

12MP 2x Telephoto (enabled by quadpixel sensor): 48 mm, ƒ/1.78 aperture, secondgeneration sensorshift optical image stabilization, 100% Focus Pixels

12MP 5x Telephoto: 120 mm, ƒ/2.8 aperture, 3D sensorshift optical image stabilization and autofocus, tetraprism design

5x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; 10x optical zoom range

Digital zoom up to 25x

There is obviously a huge difference in the number of cameras on our phones now as well as the quality and what you can do with them! Some people have filmed whole movies using iPhones! Another cool thing about the cameras and how we can use them is that we are able to see each other via FaceTime on the Apple phones or using Google Meets on the Androids. Processors are so much faster as well. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has the A17 Pro chip. This is a new 6‑core CPU with 2 performance and 4 efficiency cores. This technical jargon is just to say that there is a lot more to these phones than what we had when I first started. We’re already seeing some other really cool advancements in smartphones like Samsung’s implementation of AI into their S24 series!

It has been amazing to be a part of the NTW team and not only see the company grow but also see how phone technology has evolved and advanced over time. I’m excited to see what the future of this technology has for us! Happy National Telephone Day everyone!
